It was yesterday night that I finished reading  "The Virgin and The Gypsy" translated into telugu by Murthy Kvvs.

As usual n as ever his translation is beautiful.

His acumen n skill in translation infact made this novella a very comfortable read.Translating DH Lawrence is not a cakewalk the fact of which I understood when I was reading his "Lady Chatterly's Lover" a decade ago.His presention is rather intricate and vocabulary deeper in meaning. For a common reader like me, levels of understanding 'english literature' are limited.Though we read out of curiosity we can't enjoy it fully for want of the ability to appreciate n appraise the theme n  stand of the writer.i feel happy that his wonderful translations are available and satiating our souls.

Nothing to comment on the themes of DH Lawrence. They are unconventional in spirit n shocks the frigid society living in the quicksands of  'customs n conventions' that keep a check on individual's freedom.Lawrence's insights make us think for a while.

I could understand why the wife of Rector eloped .it can well be justified in the backdrop of the Rector's family atmosphere where she might have felt the sultriness. The evolution of the character of 'Yvette' is very interesting and that of her love too towards the Gypsy.

The last episode where the Gypsy saves the Virgin in the deluge seems rather dramatic.

Lucelli character is interesting but I feel the story would have gone with the same tempo without this character also.

Kudos to murthy KVVS garu who is doing yeomen service to lovers of English literature with his wonderful translations.👍
