13 July of this year is an important day in the annals of Bhadrachalam Bridge. The bridge has helped innumerable pilgrims to reach the divine abode and became synonymous with gateway to the states like Chattisgarh and Odisha as well. It completed 60 years since its inception in the year 1965.
There was a heartening incident in a ferrying boat that met a fatal accident wherein many pilgrims died in 1959, while en route Bhadrachalam via the Godavari river.
The waterway was the only means to reach Bhadrachalam until then. It was an arduous journey to enter the renowned temple built in 1674 CE by the saint poet Sri Kancharla Gopanna.
Soon after the bridge was materialized, the flow of people and vehicles increased with each passing year and this illustrious construction served a lot with its quality and still going strongly.
Patel and company did such a wonderful job by providing the 1.2 km length bridge valuing the public money and safety. All these 60 years withstood countless vehicles and commuters to connect with the world outside.
Watching the torrential river Godavari over the bridge in the rainy season could be a rare sight for any lover of nature. And the glimpse of the temple when a bus filled with pilgrims entered the bridge gives a sense of speechless awe.
The happiest thing is that one more new bridge was added this year by the side of it. The duo looks spectacular and now one bridge is used for incoming and another for outcoming.
It could be greatly helpful during the seasons of Sri Rama Navami, Mukkoti, and other festivals as the exodus of visitors would increase. on special occasions.
All shades of Godavari can be witnessed from around the place. The rainy season shows immense flow and the peak summer is a dried-up and feeble water trail. Just like the climate of the temple town.
